Venezuelan Vice President Attends International Court Hearing on Essequibo Territorial Dispute

Share:

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez participated in proceedings at the International Court of Justice regarding the territorial dispute over the Essequibo region. Rodríguez rejected the court's jurisdiction in the matter during the hearing. The dispute centers on the oil-rich Essequibo territory, which Guyana claims as its own based on an 1899 arbitration ruling that established the region's borders. Guyana, a former British and Dutch colony, maintains that the arbitration tribunal's decision definitively placed Essequibo within its territory, while Venezuela continues to contest this claim.
