Slovakia Marks Centenary of Pioneering Cancer Doctor Eva Siracká
Share:
Slovakia is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Eva Siracká, a physician who broke medical taboos and founded the country's first cancer advocacy organization. In 1990, Siracká established the non-profit League Against Cancer, making then-Czechoslovakia one of the first former socialist bloc countries to have such an organization. Her work helped remove stigma around cancer treatment and advocacy in the post-communist transition period, when medical discussions about cancer remained largely taboo in Eastern Europe.
