Slovak Psychologist Shares Experience of Home Care for Aging Parents
Psychologist Mária Kopčíková made the decision over fifteen years ago to care for her elderly parents at home, preparing their house with accessible features including a bathroom with a large shower that could accommodate seniors with assistance. However, when her father suffered a stroke, she was unable to provide the necessary care at home. Kopčíková now focuses on spending as much time as possible with her mother, reflecting the challenges many Slovak families face in balancing home care aspirations with practical limitations. The case highlights the growing issue of eldercare in Slovakia as the population ages and families struggle to provide adequate support for elderly relatives while managing professional and personal responsibilities.
