EU May Impose Sanctions Over Threats to Navigation in Strait of Hormuz
Share:
The European Union announced it may introduce sanctions targeting those who threaten navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments. The EU did not immediately specify which individuals or entities would be subject to the new measures. The potential sanctions would add to existing EU penalties against Iran, which Brussels has already imposed over human rights violations in the country. The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, is one of the world's most important maritime chokepoints, with about one-fifth of global petroleum liquids passing through the waterway.
