Germany recorded a public finance deficit of more than 127 billion euros in the previous year, according to new financial data. The figure reflects the overall state of German government finances across different administrative levels. Meanwhile, Germany's federal states managed to significantly improve their fiscal position, reducing their combined deficit by more than half to 8.7 billion euros. This improvement at the state level provided some offset to the broader public finance shortfall, though the overall deficit remained substantial.
