Trump Threatens Macron with Tariffs Over French Tax on US Tech Companies

Share:

US President-elect Donald Trump has threatened French President Emmanuel Macron with tariffs if France does not eliminate its tax on American technology companies. France has imposed a three percent tax on major tech firms since 2019, targeting companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple that generate significant revenue in France but pay relatively little tax there. The digital services tax was introduced as European governments sought to ensure multinational tech giants contribute fairly to public finances in countries where they operate, despite booking profits in lower-tax jurisdictions. Trump's threat signals potential trade tensions between the US and France over digital taxation policies that affect American companies.
