Slovak President Expected to Appoint Controversial Ambassadors This Week

Share:

President Peter Pellegrini is expected to appoint two new Slovak ambassadors this week - lawmaker Miroslav Radačovský to Cyprus and former Deputy Prime Minister Peter Kmec to Italy. According to diplomat and foreign policy expert Ivan Novotný from the liberal Freedom and Solidarity party (SaS), both appointees will face isolation in their diplomatic roles due to their controversial backgrounds. Novotný criticized the personnel policy of Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár from the ruling social-democratic Smer party and suggested that a future government should immediately recall both ambassadors once appointed. The appointments reflect the current government's approach to staffing key diplomatic positions with political allies rather than career diplomats.
