US Grants Sanctions Exception Allowing Venezuela to Fund Maduro's Legal Defense

Share:

The United States has granted Venezuela an exception to economic sanctions, allowing the country to pay for President Nicolás Maduro's legal defense in US federal court. Maduro and his wife had previously petitioned a federal judge to dismiss charges against them. Following the sanctions exemption announced Friday, Maduro's defense team acknowledged the exception and withdrew their motion to dismiss the criminal charges, at least temporarily. The development marks a significant procedural shift in the high-profile case against the Venezuelan leader, who faces federal charges in the United States while remaining in power in Caracas.
