Three members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were wounded in an explosion at one of their positions in southern Lebanon on Friday. The UN peacekeeping mission, which has been deployed along Lebanon's southern border with Israel since 1978 to monitor the ceasefire and maintain stability in the region, warned that attacks near their positions could provoke retaliatory fire. UNIFIL operates multiple bases and observation points in southern Lebanon as part of its mandate to oversee the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and facilitate the return of effective Lebanese government authority to the area.
