France will deploy two frigates to the Red Sea and is coordinating with allies to prepare a defensive mission aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The operation's primary objective is to protect oil and gas exports that transit through the strategically vital waterway. The Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, with roughly one-fifth of the world's petroleum liquids passing through the narrow passage between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.
