Rare Pygmy Hippo Born at Bratislava Zoo

Share:

Bratislava Zoo has welcomed the birth of a rare pygmy hippo calf, marking a significant addition to conservation efforts for this endangered species. The female calf has been named Bawu, derived from African linguistic roots. Pygmy hippos are among the world's most endangered large mammals, with fewer than 2,500 individuals remaining in the wild, primarily in the forests of West Africa. The birth represents an important contribution to international breeding programs aimed at preserving the species.
