Slovakia extends parental benefits for children rejected from kindergartens due to capacity shortages

Parents of three-year-old children who cannot secure places in state kindergartens due to capacity shortages will be eligible for extended parental benefits of up to 500 euros monthly. Under new regulations, parents must now be rejected not only from their designated local kindergarten but also from any alternative kindergarten that the municipality might offer before qualifying for the extended support. Kindergarten enrollment began in May, with many facilities facing capacity constraints that prevent them from accepting all applicants. The extended parental benefit system addresses the gap between the end of standard maternity leave and children's entry into preschool education, providing financial support to families forced to continue home childcare due to insufficient kindergarten capacity in their area.
