Belarusian Opposition Leader Holds Talks in Prague on Support for Freedom Movement

Share:

Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with top Czech officials in Prague during a series of high-level diplomatic talks. Tsikhanouskaya, who challenged authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko in the disputed 2020 presidential election and has led opposition efforts from exile, discussed ongoing Czech support for the Belarusian pro-democracy movement. The meetings included talks with Czech President Petr Pavel and likely other senior officials as part of coordinated international backing for opponents of Lukashenko's regime. Czech political leadership reaffirmed unified support for the Belarusian opposition's struggle for freedom and democratic governance. The talks underscore continued international diplomatic efforts to support pro-democracy forces in Belarus, where Lukashenko has maintained power since 1994 despite widespread protests following the contested 2020 election that forced Tsikhanouskaya and other opposition figures into exile.
