Slovak artist Jan Šádek has publicly shared his harrowing experience with drug addiction and a near-fatal suicide attempt. Despite his cheerful demeanor and frequent use of emoticons in communications, Šádek revealed how his addiction led him to steal from his parents and friends to fund his habit. His struggles resulted in imprisonment and homelessness, followed by multiple stays in psychiatric facilities from which he repeatedly escaped. In a farewell letter, he wrote that he could no longer cope with his situation, only to wake up shocked a day and a half later, having survived his suicide attempt.
