A 57-year-old Nepalese climber named Dawa Sherpa has been released from intensive care after disappearing for six days in Mount Everest's deadly "death zone." Sherpa vanished on May 30 during harsh conditions in the high-altitude region above 8,000 meters, where oxygen levels are critically low and survival is extremely difficult. He was presumed dead for six days before being found and rescued. The incident occurred during one of the final climbs of this year's spring climbing season on the world's highest peak. At least five other climbers died on Everest's slopes during the 2024 climbing season, highlighting the continued dangers faced by mountaineers attempting to summit the 8,849-meter peak.
