Umberto Bossi, the Italian politician who founded the right-wing Northern League party, has died in a hospital in Varese. The longtime parliamentarian established the autonomy movement in Lombardy in the mid-1980s, which later evolved into the Northern League (Lega Nord), one of Italy's major political forces. Bossi served as a minister and also held positions in the European Parliament during his decades-long political career focused on Northern Italian regional interests and autonomy.
