Traffic Congestion on Bratislava's Bajkalská Street Not Going Away Soon, Expert Warns

Traffic congestion on Bratislava's busy Bajkalská Street is unlikely to disappear during peak hours anytime soon, according to transport expert Rastislav Cenký. While infrastructure improvements — including the Bratislava bypass road, its intersection with the D1 motorway, multiple exit ramps, and parking policy measures — have had a positive effect on traffic flow in the Slovak capital, many drivers may not feel the difference on a daily basis. Cenký, who has been involved in several major transport projects in Bratislava and currently serves as an adviser to the Banská Bystrica regional government, explained that the primary benefit of these measures has been preventing congestion from becoming even worse, rather than delivering a noticeable reduction in delays. Bratislava, a city of around 500,000 people, faces chronic traffic pressure driven by rapid suburban growth and high car dependency, making comprehensive solutions a long-term challenge for city planners.
