Bratislava Mayoral Candidate Calls for Transparency Over Harbour Purchase, Warns of Mass Tree Felling

A candidate in the upcoming Bratislava mayoral race is demanding greater transparency over a controversial property deal and raising environmental concerns in the Slovak capital. Miroslav Heredoš, who is running for mayor of Bratislava, has called on the current city administration — specifically incumbent mayor Jozef Ráž — to publicly release an expert valuation report related to the city's acquisition of the Zimný prístav, or Winter Harbour, a waterfront area on the Danube river. Heredoš is also warning that up to 100,000 trees could be felled in Vlčie hrdlo, a protected natural area on the eastern edge of Bratislava, raising alarm about potential damage to one of the city's key environmental zones. The calls come as Bratislava prepares to receive additional new buses for its public transport network, and as the Pohoda music festival — one of Slovakia's largest annual outdoor cultural events — gets underway in the western Slovak city of Trenčín.
