Slovak Government Blocks Hungarian Foundation's Entry into Book Publishing Market

Share:

The Slovak government has moved to prevent the Hungarian MCC Foundation from acquiring Slovak publishing houses Panta Rhei and Ikar, effectively blocking the organization's planned expansion into Slovakia's book market. The MCC Foundation, which operates an academy in Dunajská Streda in southern Slovakia, had been seeking to enter Slovak publishing through these acquisitions. The foundation is associated with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's political network. Meanwhile, the Hungarian Tisza Party government has announced it will dissolve the MCC Foundation entirely, which could further complicate the organization's cross-border activities and its existing operations in Slovakia's ethnic Hungarian regions.
